This is very much a studio painting. It is based on the morning misty light in the valley below Eungella but also my love for traditional Chinese landscape and the islands off shore from Mckay. I moved the Islands and the sea up into the valley and graded the perspective from Western to Eastern.

This painting was made for The Mosman Art Walk. It shows a view of the old military base that is now a commercial site and maritime research facility at Chowder Bay below Mosman on Sydney Harbour.
From a stay at a beautiful property called Skye at East Gresford NSW where the owners allow selected artists to work.

After the Painted River Project event at Moree where I was an invited artist I returned a few months later to take more photographs as composite studies for some studio paintings. I arrived late in the day after heavy rain. The Mehi River had been in a huge flood just days before and the Sun broke through under heavy clouds just before sunset. The cast shadows of buildings and clouds left a thin strip of Golden Light across the tree trunks.

This work is from a photograph I took from a boat as we were returning from a day of plein air painting in the rain in the Whitsunday Islands. The clouds were very low and the forms were spectacular. Some people on social media saw an angel. I saw a beautiful abstract form that I knew I would be painting.

Another Whitsunday painting of clouds. There is not a lot of exaggeration in this painting. Clouds are often weirder and more remarkable that we assume them to be.
