My second painting of the newly revealed cliff face called Dogface by the locals. There was a massive landslide in 1931 that left this striking yellow sandstone cliff face.

This painting was made for The Mosman Art Walk. It shows a view of the old military base that is now a commercial site and maritime research facility at Chowder Bay below Mosman on Sydney Harbour.

At 21cm x 30cm this is a study for a much bigger painting, also on this feed. Narrow neck is a much loved ridge north of Katoomba. Kanimbla and the Megalong Valley can be seen in the distance.

I saw this striking wedge of light.

Lincoln’s Rock is one of the favourite lookouts in the Blue Mountains. There is a beautiful subtle geometry in it’s ancient forms. There is also a lot of mindless carving of names and initials.


After heavy rain the clouds were lifting up to the hilltops.

The combination of rural hills and a Blue Mountains backdrop makes Kanimbla a subject that I keep going back to. I saw something that day that reminded me of the great Austrian/Australian painter Eugene Von Guerard
