After the Big Wet, 40cm x 90cm, acrylic on board, 2021
I can’t drive through rural countryside where these bales of cotton or hay with their brightly coloured plastic wrapping sit in fields and not be struck by their incongruity. They remind me of the wrapped headlands, buildings and other conceptual artforms of Christo and Jean- Claude. They add a strange alien beauty with their strong synthetic colours set in the less chromatic tertiary colours of nature. I’ve always been interested in the clash of man made forms with natures forms and, as time and the elements take their toll, their eventual breakdown and reconciliation.

Reach for the Sky, 40cm x 40cm, acrylic on board, 2021 – sold
Another Whitsunday painting of clouds. There is not a lot of exaggeration in this painting. Clouds are often weirder and more remarkable that we assume them to be.

Mangrove Boogie, 40cm x 40cm, acrylic on board, 2021, sold

Early in the morning we edged around a cape and into the light.

On the way back to shore huge clouds amassed in the western sky and the horizon seemed weirdly close, like the set in the movie Truman.

Just after sunset when the only light is the red western sky. The title refers to Arnold Bocklin’s famous painting Isle of the Dead. This acrylic studio painting is 50cm x 50cm

Another plein air made on an island off the Queensland Coast. Made in fog and drizzle I really liked the marks left by the rain so I made no attempt to disguise them. I called this Sleeping Sow Rock

As I was making this plein air work at Cape Hillsborough the sea mist from behind the farm came in and gradually engulfed the Pinnacle.
